WATCH OUT FOR “SENDONG and TISOY “

By | October 14, 2011

So you think the worst is over for typhoon season in the Philippines?
Although the trio of “Pedring”, “ Quiel “ and “Ramon “, all destructive tropical cyclones that slammed hard the country and caused unprecedented and massive flooding in many parts of the islands, barely left land, don’t expect the end of the regular
storm season for this year.
There are still several weather disturbances that may come the Philippines’ way before the regular average of 19-20 typhoons per year ends hopefully by December 2011.
According to the 2011 list of typhoons, we should watch out
next for “Sendong, Tisoy, Ursula and others to complete the alphabetical list of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA.
So going down to complete it there are still “ Viring, Weng, Yoyong and lastly Zigzag “.

And according to experts, judging by the great deluge that occurred in Central Luzon, parts of Mindanao and Visayas and elsewhere ..the great “Ondoy “ flooding that killed hundreds and even thousands , was just a preview of what to expect in the coming years insofar as flooding is concerned.
They said global warming and other factors such as rampant illegal logging, slash and burn farming (kaingin), indiscriminate disposal of garbage and clogging of waterways have all contributed to the
flooding phenomenon that happened during “Pedring, Quiel and Ramon “.
A good example was the destruction of the seawall along Roxas
boulevard which has survived the worst storms since World War II but crumbled with the storm surge brought by typhoon “Pedring “.

The Philippines is also on the top ten of countries that are most affected by the onset of global warming which include nations like Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Vietnam among others.

If typhoons “Pedring, Quiel and Ramon “ caused the worst
flooding of the country known in environmental history,
“Ondoy “was not as deadly as typhoon “Uring or Thelma “ that caused the deaths of some 8,000 pers0ns in November of 1991.
This storm lasted for some five days and the most destructive or costliest among these weather disturbances was not “Ondoy “
but the second storm that followed it after only a week which is
“Pepeng “. It left a trail of damages to property and crops worth some P27.3 Billion or about $608 million US.
But if it is of any consolation, while the Philippines is visited by
an average of 20 storms each year, only about 9 usually hit land.

INSPIRATION FROM JOB: While he may be worth at least $8.5 Billion US at the time of his death or maybe more, tech Icon and wizard Steve Jobs left knew the stark reality of death and defined
A man’s true worth and greatness by this quote “
“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve something wonderful—
That’s what matters to me “.
