The Second Chance Foundation was created to support, empower, and educate incarcerated, marginalized, racialized, and transitional women. This foundation is created by women for women to assist in providing the “second chance” without judgement that is needed. No woman should be defined by the mistakes of their past. It is their belief that everyone deserves to lead a happy, productive, and fulfilling life.
They help each woman, through peer support, education, and training to build a successful life for themselves and for their children. The foundation also provides accessible services in the Scarborough area, including therapy and counselling. Drop-in counselling is offered from time to time. They work with shelters around the Scarborough area to provide homing services to women living in poverty, fleeing from abuse, or looking for local resources. They provide guidance to women that are on parole or probation to stabilize their lives.
Their services also include employment resource, job training and re-training, free computer training courses, women support groups, recreational activities, volunteer activities, and food bank.
