SARAH, GERALD’S ROMANCE LOOMS

By | March 30, 2012

Finally, both Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson admit their burgeoning intimate relationship which looms to a serious romance. Gerald who notched his 23rd birthday in the company of cancer victim children no longer makes a covert of his true feelings
“Yes, for quite a time now I’ve been courting Sarah. I believe she’s the right girl for me.” He chuckled to writer-pals. Yet he keeps mum about his chances to win Sarah’s heart.
Seemingly, Sarah elates over the leniency of her mom of late to entertain suitors, making herself avail of a second chance to love . Chums have noticed that Sarah often wears the necklace gifted to her by Gerald last Valentine’s day.
Could it be attributed to the fact that Sarah reciprocates Gerald’s affection for her under wraps at the moment? Well, let’s see for most anybody embodies the duo as perfect for each other. They’re God fearing, loving, professional, with unblemished image to this date. Keep up wooing Sarah, Gerald.
Trivia:
Did you know that in the ‘50s up to the early ‘70s, movie stars had already propelled themselves in politics? The first one was the late famous actor Rogelio dela Rosa who won a seat in the Senate hands down. Later, the president then Diosdado Macapagal appointed Rogelio as ambassador in several Asian countries. The former’s first wife was Rogelio’s sister.
Movie idol Fred Montilla followed suit. He was elected Quezon City councilor for two terms. His untimely death abated his plan to run for a higher government position. In any case his brother-actor Rudy Francisco turned councilor too. He used to be linked then to Movie Queen of that decade Gloria Romero. The two were paired in films for Sampaguita Pictures. Eventually. Rudy became a lawyer yet opted to go abroad.
Among actresses, the only lucky one that period was ex-Action Queen Alicia Vergel (Ace & Beverly Vergel’s mom). Aside from that tag, Alicia garnered best actress awards for dramatic roles and excelled to as comedienne. As an elected Barangay chairperson in Quezon City, her toughness, disciplinary acts awed her constituents. Alicia fought the goons of their place physically, intrepid that she was. Unfortunately, she died at the time she aspired to run for mayor.
Sadly, other female celebrities were a failure in politics. Pilar Pilapil lost in the senatorial race. So with Imelda Papin who fought in the gubernatorial slate in Bicol and later as senator. Even the top star then Nora Aunor wasn’t triumphant in running for mayorship in Bicol also. Unlike the survivor Vilma Santos who, after several terms as Lipa city mayor emerged Batangas governor for the second time now.
Undeniably, the most successful was Joseph Estrada. From a long time San Juan mayor, he became a senator which catapulted him years after as the president of the country.
Ex-actor Dennis Roldan, the half brother of actress Isabel Rivas, shared the limelight when chosen QC congressman. However, his implication in a crime had ceased his higher dream. It was Herbert Bautista who rose in QC afterwards. From Barangay chairman, councilor to vice mayor, he’s today QC mayor.
Speaking of the current star-politicians, this writer can’t help but recall their wholehearted support. After being denied a visa to Canada several times, Sen. Bong Revilla handed me his letter of endorsement addressed to the Canadian consul. Finally that paved a way for me to enplane to Canada for the first time.
Sen. Lito Lapid proved he’s worth a friend when he aided me in my libel cases by giving his lawyer to defend me. While Sen. Jinggoy Estrada. Gov. Vilma Santos and Mayor Herbert Bautista assiduously helped MOWPPAP (writers-lens men club) financially to cope up with its funds given to the sick, disabled colleagues.
With the ongoing Lent season, did you that movie companies then produced films for Holy Week presentation? Sampaguita Pictures offered Pitong Pagsisisi, an all-star-cast about the seven last words of Christ and Monghita, a nun story top billed by Gloria Romero.
LVN Pictures came up with Banal O Makasalanan, a biblical pic on the story of Salome top billed by Delia Razon and a Jaime dela Rosa starrer Sa Paanan ng Nazareno which wobbled on the devotion at the Quiapo church.
Premiere Productions held a search among colegialas to enact the title role of Sta. Rita De Casia, won by Rosemarie Gil from Assumption College and another saint story Santa Lucia bannered by Edna Luna of mermaid Dyesebel fame.
Lebran outfit chose the life delineation of Christ in Kalbaryo ni Hesus, with American actor Jenning Sturgeons as Christ and Pagsilang ng Mesiyas, with Norma Blancaflor as Virgin Mary and the baby then Tirso Cruz 111 as infant Jesus.
Sharon’s Cherished Hope
Admittedly, Sharon Cuneta pins much hope that sooner or later her family’s feud with the Sottos will be threshed out. Since childhood, Shawie had been attached to her aunt Helen Gamboa which brought her closeness too to Helen’s hubby Sen. Tito Sotto.
However, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan’s inevitably got embroiled with Sen. Tito in the Senate. In a way, that somehow extirpates the smooth relationships with the said families, with Sharon caught in the conflict.
These days, Shawie cherishes a wish to bury the hatchet to extenuate whatever differences Kiko has with Tito. Hopefully, before her Toronto concert in June 9, it will be a reality.
A Reunion at Luis’s Wake
A colleague intimated that the sight she witnessed was a tearful reunion among the ex-Sampaguita Pictures celebrities of the ‘50s. She meant at the wake of Luis Gonzales who died of pneumonia recently.
Gloria Romero, Amalia Fuentes, Barbara Perez, Liberty Ilagan, Susan Roces, Tirso Cruz 111, Gina Alajar , Sampaguita big wig Marichu Maceda and other co-workers at the said studio came in droves. They reminisced the good natured, wacky ways of Luis who’s at his best as the late Pres. Ferdinand Marcos in Iginuhit ng Tadhana, opposite Gloria Romero as Imelda Marcos.
Intrigues Bug Dingdong, Gov. ER
Looks like the impetuous scribes haven’t ceased instilling intrigues between dingdong Dantes and Gov. ER Ejercito. Look, after the film fest where dingdong (Segunda Mano) beat ER (Asiong Salonga) for best actor, they nurture new innuendo to bug the two.
You see, ER won the best actor at the recent Star Awards. But the Enpress award giving body snubbed him. While dingdong leads the nominees for best actor. But the two sustain no hanky-panky reaction over it, remaining cordial, no ill talks despite what others penned or commented. Seemingly, it’s all about the clash in the choices of the people behind the said bodies.
Remember, the Enpress group broke away from the Star Awards out of differences in the manner of voting. The latter used to be identified with the Kapamilya network. In contrast, Enpress body’s attached to the Kapuso network. So that’s it.
