It has been clear weather the past few days now. Most people here in MetroManila are on their routine activities most of the time- home- office or place of work- home again. The shopping frenzy associated with the season is evident only during the weekends. The nighmarkets at Greenhills and Divisoria have not reached a ‘fullhouse’ rating yet – it seems that city dwellers are taking their time before they embark on their shopping sprees, parang life is medyo relaxed pa. Could it be because most have not received their 13th month pay or Christmas bonuses yet? I suspect that most are being prudent with expenses this season due to fears of the economy and prices soaring further up as the months go by. Ninenerbyos din kami dahil sa sunud- sunod na mga pangyayari ng pagbabangayan between our officials from the executive branch and mga hukom ng ating judiciary. Baka lang…hwag naman sana…
Parang people here have a lot to be uncertain about …or be cautious about these days. Natataranta na kami sa mga balita nakakapraning!!!(translation- nakakaloka).
At the start of the week, heto na ang headline- Corona Impeached. Kanerbyos that word talaga- impeach.
Congress of the Philippines voted to impeach the head of the Supreme Court. The news reports say 1/3 of the total number of the nation’s congressmen voted to impeach Chief Justice Renato Corona- that’s a total of 188 votes that mostly came from congressmen- allies of the President tallied in the impeachment complaint document. That number is nearly twice the minimum 95 votes that allowed transmittal.
‘Betrayal of Public Trust,’- this is what the Supreme Court Justice is accused of. House members cite Corona’s ‘track record’ of bias and subjectivity in cases that involved the persons of ex- Pres. Gloria Arroyo, family and allies.
Very sure ang balana that the current dispensation’s displeasure with Corona did not start with the temporary restraining order that it issue recently, allowing now Pampanga Cong. Arroyo, and husband Mike to fly overseas as they search for expert medical attention for Mrs. Arroyo’s ailments. Noon pa mang akmang manunumpa na si Pnoy bilang bagong Pangulo ay damang dama na na ng buong bayan ang di pagrespeto ni PNoy kay Corona as the designated Supreme Court Chief Justice.
And why not? Corona was a midnight appointee of the President who has just left Malacanang. Hawa naman, sabi ng kampo ni PNoy. However, take note that pinaburan ang appointment na ito ng Korte later on, therefore legitimizing na ang pag- upo ni Corona as Supreme Court Chief Justice. Di pa rin bilib si PNoy.
Kita mo nga di nya ito pinagpreside sa presidential oathtaking nya noon, hmmm.
Bukod (daw) sa kanyang pagpabor sa mga Arroyo, inakusahan pa rin si Corona sa paggamit sa pondo ng hudikatura para sa kanyang personal na layunin; binanggit pa rin ng mga taga Kongreso ang naging malabnaw na reaksyon ng kataas- taasang hukuman sa usapin ni dating Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez; ang mabilis na pag aksyon nito sa paghahati ng lalawigan ng Camarines ‘to favor the candidacy as congressman of Arroyo’s son, Dato; samantalang pinakatagal- tagal naman daw ang aksyon nito sa pakiusap na pagko- convert ng ilang bayan at lunsod kasama na ang Dinagat Island sa isang buo at hiwalay na lalawigan.
Matapang naman ang pinalalayas na Chief Justice- manipulated daw ang Congressional act na ito at lalabanan nya ang desisyon. In short, Corona is not willing to vacate his post. ‘Sabotahe’, sigaw nya as he promised employees of the Supreme Court that he will lead them to fight elements that intend to belittle the judiciary.
Hmm, before the impeachment process, many believed that PNoy, with the support of his allies, is in the forefront of the project that intends to drive Corona away from the Supreme Court. Now, medyo, the public needs to make another analysis- in the impeachment process of last Monday kasi, hindi lang ang mga kakampi ni PNoy ang bumoto to oust Corona. According to a Liberal Party member, mistulang nabuo at nagcrystallize ang magkakaibang opinyon at kuru kuro hanggang maabot ang isang consensus. Paano kasi, ilang militanteng party- list groups ang saglit na humiwalay sa grupo na noo’y naka- caucus, nagmiting among themselves,, then went back to declare their unanimous decision to vote for the impeachment of Corona.
Ano kaya ang ibig sabihin ng mga pahiwatig na ito?
