From the ‘50s to late ‘70s, Eddie Mesa was undisputedly the singing idol. Tagged as Elvis Presley of the Philippines, he graduated to a serious dramatic actor. Two of his outstanding starrers were Hawaiian Boy shot in U.S, with then famous American singer Roy Hamilton of Unchained Melody and you’ll Never Walk Alone fame and Sa Atin ang Daigdig where he strongly vied for best actor award. Eddie married actress Rosemarie Gil. Some years later, the couple decided to quit showbiz to reside in U.S.
However, Eddie and Rose begot three attractive kids who inherited their acting histrionics. They’re Cherrie Gil, Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil, all acting winners . Truthfully, the three didn’t reach the star stature of their dad Eddie though to date, Mark remains in demand as character actor. Nowadays, the third generation of the Eigenmanns comes up brazenly. Mark’s Children Andi and Gabby Eigenmann, plus Sid Lucero shine in their own right under ABS-CBN network. While Michael’s children Geoff and Ryan Eigenmann have their share of popularity. Ryan is also with Ch. 2. From the Kapamilya network Geoff has joined the ranks of the Kapuso stars, enjoying full star billing.
When Eddie and wife Rose enplaned back from US to grace the wedding of their grandson Ryan, we got the chance to chat with the former. Eddie’s confident that all his grandchildren will make it big in due time, with propitious accomplishments to boot. As he pointed out, it’s not far-fetched that all or one of them would eclipse his fame.
Admittedly, Eddie and Rose have given up showbiz for good. Now back in US, Eddie still continues to sing in his church ‘s activities. Together with Rose. They spend most of their time to commune with nature and to assist ethnic minorities in various places.
Positive Pregnancy for Regine
Both Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez neither confirmed nor denied that she’s pregnant. But an intimate of Regine cogently revealed to us that all signs are positive about her pregnancy. At that, she begged off for a while on her strenuous tapings for her TV series I Heart You Pare. Still, Regine backs up Ogie in collecting items from celebrities for the ukay-ukay project of the GMA-7 Kapuso Foundation to be held at the World Trade Center in Roxas Blvd.
This reminds us that once the Movie Writers & Press Photographers Association of the Philippines spearheaded ukay-ukay project. Many celebrities donated their expensive belongings, in cluding this top young actress. Her manager chided her repeatedly for he was at odds with one of the officers of the said club. Obdurately, the actress had sent more of her collection to the club which made his manager to fume mad all the more. This illustrated that in her private life, the manager has no control over her. If anything, it has drawn her closer to the press people.
AJ’s Fate, Akin to that of Rico
Insiders have opined that the fate of the car accident victim AJ Perez seems akin to that of the late actor Rico Yan. You see, the two were both young in their demise. The duo typified the same gentle, goody-goody image off-screen, with the boy-next-door type appeal. Much more so the actors departed during the Lent season. Not to mention that like Rico, AJ was a promising star of Ch. 2.
By the way, in the TV coverage of AJ’s wake, we’re not surprised to see German Moreno among the early mourners. Kuya Germs used to be his mentor during his upstart year in showbiz. AJ appeared in Kuya Germs’ TV show before he became a ward of the ABS-CBN Star Magic.
Obviously, the most emotional, sullen-looking in AJ’s demise is Jessy Mendiola, his love interest in the just concluded TV drama series Sabel. As Jessy clarified, AJ had never courted her. Yet she had a deep-seated friendly relationship with him.
“Sobrang thoughtful at mabait si AJ. Ang hirap at masakit tanggapin na wala na siya.” Jessy lamented, teary-eyed. Her happy moments with AJ will always be inculcated in her mind.

What do you know, exotic and willowy Isabelle Daza inked a 3-year contract with GMA-7. Recently Kapuso bigwigs tendered her big presscon to launch Isabelle. Of course, her mom Gloria Diaz graced the launching. For some time, Isabelle nixed down showbiz offers to finish her studies.
A degree holder now, Isabelle hones her skills as a host and actress as well prior to her meaty break. Heard that Isabelle has a flair for cooking which she got from her paternal grandma Nora Daza, a culinary expert.
Angelica, Derek: Target of Intrigues
Albeit Angelica Panganiban and Derey Ramsey denied a break up due to a third party, Aifa of the Sexbomb Girls, some camps insist of their split. A straight-forward Angelica retaliated, “inggit lang sa akin. Type nila kasi si Derek, no.”
Well, with Derek’s good looks, refined manners and impressive background, he’s indeed the object of fantasy of many chicks he has swept off their feet, be in or out of showbiz.
Manny’s Support will Push Up Beauty Queen
A number of Pinoys abroad, specifically in US, believe that the tremendous fame and charisma of world champ Manny Pacquiao have led to the recognition of his compatriots in other fields. They cite Efren Penaflorida, Charice and Arnel Pineda, among others. Manny was fresh in his bout abroad when Efren won the CNN Hero of the Year award through internet votes. Same with Charice of You Tube fame and Arnel who was chosen soloist of The Journey at the height of Manny’s popularity.
Now Manny can boost the chances of beauty queen Shamsey Supsup at the Ms. Universe tilt. His fight with Mosley will be held prior to the Ms. Universe pageant. Why not invite her to witness it. After all, Shamsey, like Manny hails from Gen Santos city. Surely, she’ll get enough exposure, if ever. Remember that last year, the Ms. Universe organizers did notice our bet Venus Raj when she was almost dethroned in the Bb, Pilipinas tilt due to illegitimate status (or she comes from a poor family?). Judges at the Ms. Universe took cognizance of it and sympathized with Venus. Thus, became a plus factor which catapulted Venus to the top five. Publicity indeed creates interest. How about it, Manny?

After their concert together, we’ve the inkling that Ai-Ai delas Alas and Cesar Montano would soon team up in an action-comedy flick. It looks like Star Cinema preps up a project for the duo, a refreshing and a unique combination. Ai-Ai admits she’s all agog if it pushes thru. Cesar doesn’t mind too to make reel love with her
