Did You know..

If Kris Aquino purposely chose Sen Chiz Escudero to be the initial guest of her new TV show Kris TV to whet the appetite of the viewers and to tickle their imaginative minds, then she has proven herself triumphant. The program garnered huge viewership and tongues wag anew that the two have romantic entanglement. Much more so that reports have it that Chiz has already separated from his lovely wife. The fact remains too that Kris’ brother President Noynoy Aquino happens to be one of the closest allies of Pnoy.
A newshen-chum whispered in jest to us of another probable scenario. It’s confirmed Kris has a Metro Manila filmfest entry this December, with Dingdong Dantes as her leading man Will a love triangle off-screen loom? Remember, Kris was linked to her partner Diether Ocampo in her recent starrer Dalaw? With Dingdong who’s also attached to Pnoy, there seems a leeway for him to court Kris. If ever, will Dingdong’s GF Marian Rivera take it comfortably, knowing her always a green-eyed when it comes to Dingdong and a spitfire person?
More Success Changes Ai-Ai
Since Ai-Ai delas Alas reaped new laurels, being adjudged Box Office Queen and Star Awards’ best actress winner, we’ve observed a big change in her, character-wise. Outwardly, Ai-Ai manifests humility not noticeable in her before. Gone too were the days she was rather very vocal for comfort, hurting others with her words, including her ballyhooed affray then with James Yap. It took Kris a lot of efforts to patch up Ai-Ai and James.
This reminds us what transpired between Ai-Ai and this writer some years back. Right after the FAMAS rites, Ai-Ai commented an invidious remark about the said body. Something to this effect,”naku ha, nabibili naman ang FAMAS trophy.” Being an active member of that group, we retaliated by penning that she was mere sour graping for she didn’t win t the best actress award. In a chance meeting with her, Ai-Ai averred that she was misquoted. To prove it, she befriended FAMAS people later and even graced the FAMAS night the following year.
With her Toronto concert being talked about nowadays, her extra sweetness, likeable ways have no longer amazed us. As-Ai has changed for the better which will truly benefit her.
Juday-Ryan Pic Darkhorse in the Metro Manila Filmfest
Many would conclude it’s either Vic Sotto-AiAi delas Alas” Enteng ng Ina Mo or Bong Revilla’s Panday 2 ends up as top grosser at the tills in Dec. Metro Manila filmfest. For us, a darkhorse which might spring in a surprise could be My House Husband which top bills Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo. Remember the couple’s Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo and its ssequels were all blockbusters. Don’t count Juday and Ryan out of the race.
Trivia:
Did you know that Boots Anson Roa made movie history as the first newcomer, married and with kids, accepted by the public to star in her initial film El Perro Gancho, with the late Eddie Rodriguez? That was in the ‘70s. Currently after countless starrers, acting awards, Boots remains visible in TV and movies. She’s also the head of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), the SSS of showbiz industry.
In the group of ten stars launched by Sampaguita Pictures as Stars’66, the only one left shining, most sought after to this date is Gina Pareno. Her career differs too for at a mature age, ‘60s, her acting has been acknowledged. Gina won the best actress award not only locally but in various international film fests for Kubrador. She shone in the recent Mara Clara TV series. Her batch in Stat ’66 Loretta Marquez, Edgar Salcado and Dindo Fernando had passed away. While Rosemarie Sonora, Blanca Gomez, Shirley Moreno, Bert Leroy Jr. Ramil & Pepito Rodriguez quit showbiz decades ago.
The Actresses for all Seasons
From box office stars they transformed into award winning actresses and for many decades have been visible in movies and TV world. They fall into the chosen few while other stars come and go. In the ‘40s up to the present, Anita Linda epitomizes the original actress for all seasons. After more than 60 years in showbiz, at 80 plus, Anita sustains an active acting life, winning best actress accolades here and in film fests abroad via her indie stuffs.
The rise of Gloria Romero in the ‘50s was something for the books. Reigning as the Movie Queen for many years, Gloria metamorphosed into a versatile performer never been left of assignments, Even in her mature age, at times Gloria top billed films., like Tanging Yaman, which were blockbusters and critically acclaimed. No wonder, Gloria switches to one TV network to another, with meaty roles to boot.
The era of ‘60s belonged to a number of popular love teams. Including the tandem of Susan Roces and Eddie Gutierrez. For that matter, Susan replaced Gloria as the Movie Queen. Subsequently, she bannered vehicle that earned her best actress trophy titled Maligno. Now, Susan finds herself in demand, both in Ch 2 and TV-5. Though she turns down some tempting movies.
The difference about the love team of Joseph Estrada and Perla Bautista from the rest was their first starrer together Markang Rehas handed them the FAMAS best actor and best actress awards. Their succeeding films were all hits and either the two were recipient of acting awards or strong contender’s year in and year out. Perla managed to move on after her break up with Erap on and off-screen. She won several best supporting awards in practically all the award giving bodies. Lately, like her best friend Anita Linda, Perla got a title role in the indie pic Hermana Fausta which gained plaudits from movie critics. Perla is indeed an actress for all seasons.
From the ‘70s to ‘90s, the undisputed rivals for Movie Queens were Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos, followed by Sharon Cuneta and Maricel Soriano. All have ended up A-! actresses with awards tucked under their belts. Yet they need a separate column or article to magnify their countless accomplishments. However, they top the list of actresses for all seasons.
Sunshine Begrudges Cesar’s Ex?
Sunshine Cruz confided to a writer-friend that she doesn’t begrudge her husband Cesar Montano’s ex Teresa Loyzaga. While it-s true Sunshine seems crestfallen at Teresa’s decisions on her son Diego Loyzaga whom Cesar sired, she’s in no position to get mad or be judgmental of Teresa’s acts. This surfaced when Teresa didn’t use Montano for Diego’s screen name and allows him to stay in her sis Bing Loyzaga’s digs , not in the custody of Cesar. Sunshine has that vicarious reaction for Cesar, shared too by their intimates that he’s deprived of his parental right. Yet Teresa has the final say which couldn’t be altered.
ABS-CBN VS GMA-7 Anew
The royal battle between Kapamilya and Kapuso networks goes beyond the boob tube world. Now the two giant stations clash on the wide screen. In the December Metro Manila filmfest it’s a foregone conclusion that the top grosser at the tills, will be either Enteng Ka ng Ina Mo and Panday 2 by GMA Films. Why? Because Enteng..banners Box Office King Vic Sotto which pits against another Box Office King Bong Revilla of Panday 2.
Others opine Enteng…has an edge for it top casts also Box Office Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas. But don’t look now, Bong has Marian Rivera as partner. Lately, her TV series Amaya tops the rating charts, so we heard. Don’t disregard her being a crowd drawer these days..
Tidbits:
Among young actors, Coco Martin tops them all in bankability as star and award winning performances. But before him it was Dennis Trillo. In fact, he nearly won the grand slam for best actor then, not to mention his top rating TV series. Truthfully Dennis’ career suffered a slump which paved the way for Coco. Whatever, not a few predict Dennis will bounce back in his Metro Manila filmfest entry, Regal Films’ Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow by multi-awarded Jun Lana, said to be the most prestigious among the 8 entries. Good luck, Dennis.
Could it be true Robin Padilla favors Aljur Abrenica to be his daughter’s Kylie’s BF while he resents EJ Falcon as his daughter Quennie’s lover? Well, Aljur belongs to an affluent family. EJ has humble roots from Mindoro. Come on, we don’t agree that Robin disparages people’s background.
