MUCH TALKED ABOUT!
MUCH AWAITED( with bated breath pa nga)!
KA SUSPENSE- SUSPENSE NA TUNAY!
IYAN PO ANG 2010 NATIONAL ELECTIONS here in the Philippines.
No place in the world na yata where such exercise contionuously invites throngs/ multitude of citizen spectators than here in our very own- the Philippines. Only in the Philippines, ika nga!
No matter how busy citizen Juan(Johny) or Juana(Jenny) is with his/ her paglalako ng puto, taho, banana cue. pichi- pichi, fishball, kikiam, squid rings at kung anu ano pang street foods, aber, tanungin mo siya about the elections, the candidates, ano ang trend, ano ang kalalabasan ng eleksyon,, aba, may opinion sya! Well- informed and talagang ready to give his two- cents’ worth kantiin ( pasimulan mo lang, subukan mo) mo lang ng isang maliit na katanungan about the elections. Baka nga ilibre ka pa nya ng tanghalian, snacks at hapunan hanggang marinig mo ang kanyang dissertation about the elections, the candidates, PR formulas to insure candidate victory and who will be best to win.
Media must have really done their job. Today, more ordinary people are aware of things around them. Meantime, si Mrs. na nasa bahay naman gets her news fill in between dramas at RH and opinions in MM and BB. All these while doing her chores around the house- laba, luto, plantsa, alaga kay baby, imis ng kalat, hugas ng plato, etc. Talagang hindi na SHY ang Pinay women- truly empowered( pansinin na lagi silang moving force sa mga barangay projects) and ready to say their piece lalo na kapag inumangan mo ng mikropono- baka mag pahid pa ng polbo at pasadahan ng lipstick ang labi pag sinabi mong pang TV Patrol or 24 Oras ang interview/ recitation- oh, yes, maski 5 seconds lang ang itatagal ng face nya on- air.
Yes, Pinoys, particularly those in the urban areas are now well- informed, abreast with updates and developments of their favorite news subjects(the 2010 elections is the top item these days, next is the pag- usad pagong ng mga isinampang kaso sa mg sangkot sa masaker sa Maguindanao, updates, Mayon Volcano situation, and of course, chismises about local stars and celebrities- Angel- Lucky breakup ang matunog this week).
Many are looking/ asking for political change. Iyan ang ramdam ko sa marami- rami ko nang nari- research about the subject- chika sa neighbors, newspapers, the internet.
Many also see the emergence of a 3- cornered fight for the presidential race as campaign time continues – Villar from Nacionalista, Noynoy from Liberal, and Erap ‘Ang Pagbabalik’ Estrada for Pwersa ng Masa.
In a survey made in December, 2009 by pollster Pulse- Asia, it appeared that naku, kakaunti lang had their sentiments for Gibo- 5% lang! It is believed that the President’s unpopularity is rubbing off on his candidacy and on him. Since the Garci scandal of 2004 ( where many suspect that the President’s men cheated for her to win) kasi, The Chief Executive’s credibility steadily plunged down na.
Personally, I am not counting Gibo out of the race.Marami pa rin naming ethical PR gimmicks that his campaign team can resort to- I really think the product is good (si Gibo) but nadadamay lang. Hoping he fights the good fight till reckoning time (that’s election day)
In the same survey, the highest sentiment ratings collated were 45% for Noy, 23% for Villar, and 19% for Erap.
Meantime, hitsurang magn-i neck to neck fight si Mar Roxas at Loren Legarda sa VP post naman with Mar getting 39% and Loren 37% in the same survey. Pareho silang maganda ang dating. Yung 2% na nai ungos ni Mar I attribute to his ‘martyr’ na dating when he gave up his presidential ambition in favor of Noynoy’s candidacy. I know her kasi- well as a fellow alumnus oft the College of MassCom in UP and as broadcast journalist before she entered politics. Sa totoo lang, she was my tv host for the last Comelec Hour before EDSA 1986. Loren is really bright and a go- getter. For me, these qualities are pogi (beauty?) points for Loren.
Sa matutunog na wagi from the administration, sumasampa na sina Lito Lapid at Bong Revilla( naka naman!)- that’s again according to the December, 2009 Pulse- Asia survey.
Dami ko pang kwentos on the elections- Philippine style.
Thanks, thanks and see you again!!!!
Bon voyage back home to LA to my cousin Rainier Banzuela who visited family in Alaminos, Laguna, belated bday to my sis Joy- ex Canada resident, Myrna Soriano, and kababatang Tenny Soriano who is now katatanda)
