No Seniors Left Behind

Among those people who suffers the greatest brought about by the invasion of Ukraine are women and children, but the older people are the most vulnerable to die because of the war. Older people, including people with disabilities, are often unable to flee from conflict and are left alone without family or their wider community. They are isolated, without loved ones and cut off from support, including access to medicine and food. They are particularly exposed when violence breaks out, as they may not be able to shelter from danger.

One in four people in Ukraine are 60 or older and many of them were already poor and vulnerable before Russia launched its invasion. Since then, about 3 million Ukrainians have fled the country, but many older people have been too sick and immobile to migrate and take refuge to surrounding countries. Older people were often overlooked during a humanitarian crisis, and their medical and nutritional needs are left unmet.

HelpAge International, a global network of support groups, has been operating in Ukraine since 2014. HelpAge is actively engaging with refugees in Moldova and working in Ukraine with their almost 300-person strong staff and volunteers delivering food, medicine and hygiene to older people, their families, and communities. Let us help them by donating today. Your donations will help ensure that no seniors are left behind.
