Just recently the Magalona family observed the 12th death anniversary of famous singer-actor Francis Magalona, called Rap King then. He was the son of the top warbler-actor Pancho Magalona, from a prominent Magalona clan from the Visayas.
Pancho’s father’s was none than Enrique Magalona who served the country as senator for years. At his young age as a student, many thought rather than to join showbiz, Pancho would enter politics, just like his dad. However, he joined the local tinsel town.
Once, Pancho in his early days in the movies, confided to a scribe that aside for his passion in acting and singing, he had a deep crush on an actress. “I just yearn to be closed to Tita Duran whom I’ve admired since she entered showbiz in her pre-teen years.” Pancho was quoted to say.
Incidentally, Pancho’s sister Susan Magalona, a most sought ramp-ad model , had a brilliant moment also. In a U.S, noted magazine, adjudged her as one of the most beautiful women of the world that made clan so proud of her, especially Pancho whom she shared her recognition being in the limelight too.

Significantly, popular American singer Roy Hamilton belted the English version titled Your Love is Mine. All the more, foreigners acknowledged Pancho that led an American producer to get him as co-star of famous Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas in the action-drama opus The Steel Claw, a resounding success

While Tita opted to quit acting to concentrate on her children, Producers handed Pancho serious roles, headed by Cry Freedom, with Rosa Rosal. Both of them garnered acting awards from award giving bodies in the said flick.
Speaking of Pancho and Tita’s kids. Francis followed his parents footsteps as a grown up. He rose to fame as the King of Rap. He penetrated the movies and TV world as host of Eat Bulaga and MTV Asian TV 5. After his altar date with Pia Arroyo, their children Elmo, Maxene and Saab duplicated the talents of the Magalonas. The three are still visible in boob tube shows.
On Francis’ demise, he was accorded posthumous Presidential Medal of Merit for his music and artistic brilliance.

For decades, this writer and Sharon Cuneta have always sustained deep camaraderie. At that, two recent incidents in her path have proven her true nature remains intact. On the news that facial artist-comedian Fanny Serrano has been hospitalized for heart attack, Sharon posted her teary-eyed photo. With a plead to pray, assist Fanny for his full recovery.
