Indeed a first in Philippine television which makes GMA-7 people grin from ear to ear having aired Eat bulaga for many decades. Much more so for the Kapuso network edges Kapamilya station on this aspect.
Few weeks back, the hosts of Eat Bulaga Indonesia enthralled local audiences when they guested at Eat Bulaga in the Philippines. In return, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, Pauline Luna, Julia Clarete and Solenn Heusaff will reportedly grace Eat Bulaga Indonesia very soon.
Lian Apologizes to Luis, Jennylyn
So it’s true that that Paolo Contis and ex-wife Lian Paz (ex-Sex bomb Girl) are now on speaking terms. A colleague who had a tete-a -tete with Lian told this writer what Lian confided. That the door not close for their reconciliation. Though Lian still heals the wounds she suffered in their break up.
More importantly, Lian apologized to Jennylyn Mercado and her bf Luis Manzano. That was when Jen’s name was dragged as the third party involved which truly hurt Luis. Lian explained that definitely there was no other woman.
“I really don’t know kung bakit nadamay si Jen. Nag-sorry na ako sa kanila ni Luis. Basta very personal na ang reason. But hopefully, mare-remedyuhan pa.” Lian was quoted as saying at the set of Game N Go which she co-host for TV-5.
Trivia:
Did you know that Barbara Perez was a philosophy & letters student at UST when the late Dr. Jose Perez of Sampaguita Pictures discovered her? As what her erstwhile classmate vet writer Alice Vergara remarked. “Her simple yet elegant style, impressive eyes awed Dr, Perez.”
After a few supporting roles, Barbara was propelled to stardom via the film Ate Barbara, a popular radio program which she starred also. Frankly, Barbara didn’t create much waves in comparison to her co-Sampaguitans Susan Roces, Amalia Fuentes who were the top stars that time and even to the dramatic stalwart Marlene Dauden.
However, Barbara upstaged practically all local actresses. Universal International studio of U.S.chose her to be the leading lady of the late Jeffrey Hunter of Jesus Christ role fame in No Man’s An Island. Barbara’s trip to New York as one of the ramp models of the famous Karilagan fashon group concided with the Hollywood presscon for No Man’s An Island.
It was there when Universal International offered Barbara a two-year-contract. Not to mention MGM pic Dime With a Halo which eventually went to another Asian actress Barbara Luna and the female lead role in 7th Dawn, opposite top American actor William Holden.
Barbara could have been the first big Pinay star ni Hollywood but she politely turned down, much to the chagrin of the Pinoys. Months later, Barbara surprisingly married actor Robert Arevalo as she averred. “Yan talaga ang sanhi kung bakit gusto ko man, tumanggi ako sa Hollywood movies. Committed na kasi kay Robert sa pagpapakasal ko sa kanya pag-uwi ko.”
Actually. Robert and Barbara became the first couple (and Last?) to garner the best actor, best actress awards in one film Daigdig ng mga Api which won best picture, best director for the late Gerry de Leon. Movie critics have considered it to date one of the best local movies made.
Nowadays, Barbara’s still visible in TV series. The latest titled Kapag Puso’y Masugatan for Ch. 2. She frequents the gatherings of ex-Sampaguita stars active or not in showbiz called Balik Samahan. This reminds me of what Barbara told a writer-pal when queried whom she would choose between Amalia and Susan.
“Both are my long time friends. Si Susan never kami nagka-misunderstanding. Ever since lagi kaming nagkakagalit ni Amalia. But I’m more comfortable with her.Siguro dahil pareho kaming outspoken, prangka ni Amalia. We’ve meeting of the minds.”
Eddie’s Pic, Oscar Awards finalist
After making it as finalist for best picture at the New York Film Festival, here’s another good news about Eddie Garcia’starrer Bwakaw. Time Magazine recently reported that among 71 films screened, Bwakaw makes it to the top six finalists for Oscar Awards best foreign movie. A new laurel for Phil movies. The awards night will be held early next year.
Barring health problems, Eddie might enplane in U.S. to grace the prestigious affair.. Who knows, that elusive trophy will be finally handed to a Filipino movie
Derek Hurt by ABS-CBN’s Move
There’s truth that ABN-CBN management ordered Anne Curtis not to mention her leading man Derek Ramsay in plugging her new film A Secret Affair for Viva Films while guesting the Kapamilya shows. Anne admitted it to a writer. “ I respect what I was told though I feel sad for Derek.” Says Anne.
Of course, Derek was upset to learn about it but just like Anne that’s the Kapamilya’ s prerogative. He sighed.”Basta alam ko wala akong masamang pinakita when I was under ABS-CBN.”
Those in the know believe that Derek’s transfer to TV 5 last April enraged the Kapamilya management. Yet knowing Derek a pleasant person, he didn’t leave the station sans proper notice.
A Chance Meeting for Lovi, Grace
My spy buzzed that Lovi Poe accidentally chanced upon her half-sister Grace Poe Llamanzares while visiting the grave of their late father Fernando Poe Jr. at the North Cemetery days before the All Souls Day. She recounted it was quite emotional scene as the two allegedly hugged each other, exchanged niceties.
The daughter of ex-actress-model Rowena Moran (FPJ’s partner in Kapag Puno na Ang Salop), Lovi has been detached from the Poe family, so they say.. Nevertheless, she mentioned before her all out support for Grace in her senatorial bid.
In similar light, FPJ’s fanatics all over the country have pledged to campaign for Grace, knowing full well she’ll emerge an ideal public servant and an inherent charitable one akin to her dad and mom Susan Roces.
