As we approach the holiday season, it’s important to remember the seniors around us who are living in poverty and isolation, and often spend the holiday season without the warmth of a shared meal or a support system. Social isolation has been a growing concern putting many seniors at risk of living alone and disconnecting them from the community. Over the past three years, COVID-19 has created more social isolation for seniors than ever before. They feel lonelier than ever before. They live alone and have no friends or families. They can not even go out to get groceries due to mobility issues. All they have is hope that someone still cares for them.
This holiday season, help rekindle the hearts of our seniors. Get involved with Society of Sharing as they have the same mission of providing the support needed by isolated seniors living in downtown Toronto.
Society of Sharing, a non-profit charitable organization, have launched its annual Christmas Gift Giving Program this year. The goal of this program is to distribute gift bags of warm clothing, non-perishable food items, toiletries, and other essential items to seniors. The program also raises funds to support the agency’s programs and services throughout the year. They recruit volunteers to provide our seniors with friendship, companionship, and support to help them go to medical appointment or grocery shopping.
Visit their website at www.socityofsharing.org to learn more about the work they do. Please donate through CanadaHelps to support their Christmas program. Let us all work together and rekindle hope among our seniors. #SOSRekindleHope
