Scanning the past decades up to the present generation, no other child performer can beat or duplicate the amazing, phenomenal feats of Nino Muhlach. From mid 70s and early 80s, he was dubbed the Wonder Boy of Philippine cinema.
At age of three, Nino gained fame as the youngest co-host in a TV show. That was in the popular Ariel & Co. After 6 headed by Ariel Ureta. The late movie king Fernando Poe Jr. was so impressed with Nino. He handed him the lead role in the film opposite him Ang Leon at Daga which was a top grosser at the box office that year. This led other producers to get Nino for lead assignments.
At four, Nino had a movie company D’ Wonder Films founded by his dad Alex and uncle Cheng Muhlach. The outfit came out with Nino’s starrers topped by Harabas Con Bulilit, the first local movie shown in the English movies famous theater Cinerama. For its first day gross then of P3 million plus, the pic turned a record holder.
Did you know that at five, a prestigious U.S. business newspaper named Nino the youngest boy millionaire in the world through his own earnings? In fact, the staff of an American boob tube show Big, Blue Marble went to the Philippines to feature Nino. A kiddie show in Germany did the same thing that made a number of Pinoys abroad and foreigners alike to visit the Philippines to meet Nino in person.
Truth to tell, in the Trilla in Manila bout of famous boxers Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, Nino who was in the audience had created a stir. Nino’s co-star Comedy King Dolphy won too the best actor trophy, making it not only blockbuster opus but a high quality one. At that, Nino was bestowed with other well made dramatic flicks.
During Nino’s teen years, his popularity was replaced by his cousin Aga Muhlach who emerged then teenage movie idol ignited by his smasheroo movie Bagets. It triggered off the young people to call each bagets Nevertheless, Nino successfully branched out as a stage and TV ads director. His passion for photography made him to have high tech cameras which film makers rented for their shooting. These days, aside from his businesses, Nino concentrates taking care of his son Alonzo who has joined showbiz world.
ABS-CBN Ball Criticized by Vet Director
The recent ABS-CBN Ball, a trending topic worldwide, has been criticized by multi-awarded vet director Mike de Leon who wrote in his account it’s a showbiz exploitation. He compared the event to the luxurious bash tendered by Imelda Marcos during the time of the late president Ferdinand Marcos.
Some have retaliated that the affair was not funded by the government and the proceeds would go to the Bahay Bata Children’s village in Bulacan. Carmina Villaruel and Zoren Legaspi have allowed their children to enter showbiz world. It’s their son Mavy and daughter Cassy who are twins. The two inked a contract under Kapuso network with initial appearance in the forthcoming musical-variety program Studio 7.

After Mocha Uson resigned as communication assistant under President Duterte, Angel Locsin has been befuddled of the return of their viral shots. You see, the two were in the 2013 pic 4 Sisters and a Wedding. The scene Angel dragging Mocha that went viral then has resurfaced. But Angel and Mocha have no enmity whatsoever, so Angel clarified.

Who says Korina Sanchez and her mom in law Judy Roxas are in a rift? During the 54th birthday of Korina, she hosted World Teachers Day celebration, Judy surprised Korina with happy birthday greetings along with 14 thousand public school teachers held at the Araneta coliseum owned by Judy’s family. A teary-eyed Korina hugged Judy.
In retrospect, this writer had contact then with Judy then for her late husband senator Gerry Roxas legal counsel included my lawyer brother. This writer together with co-students campaigned for Gerry during the senatorial race upon the prodding of my sibling.
The 32nd PMPC Star Awards announced its special awardees.
